Abergavenny RC runs weekly coached sessions for young riders at Abergavenny Leisure Centre. Our sessions cater for young cyclists aged 5-15yrs, whether they are beginners or experts, our coaches will cater for all. Youngsters who have learnt to ride a bike but need to develop control skills are particularly welcome.

When
Every Saturday, 10.30-12.00 noon. Please sign up to our facebook page as we sometimes cancel sessions due to bad weather, events or other activities.

Where
To find us, please drive past the Leisure Centre, and along the exit road above the playing fields. Immediately prior to the exit, turn right and you will find so on the gravel pitch.

What
Sessions usually involve a group warm up, with fun challenges and skills. We then typically split into two or three groups, depending on age / ability. Older riders will enjoy a session based on competition and challenging skills, whilst the younger groups enjoy skills activities including slaloms, fun races and even the limbo bar!

How much
Sessions are FREE, but we do insist regular participants join Abergavenny RC (£15 for youths) and British Cycling (also FREE for new members).

Equipment
You will need a bike in good working order (it is essential you have two working brakes).

You will also need a helmet – our coaches can help with its correct adjustment.

We recommend you wear comfortable, tight fitting sportswear to our session, and a pair of gloves / cycling mitts. In cold or wet weather, please bring enough warm or waterproof clothing (rain NEVER stops play!).

Also bring a drink – you will get thirsty!

Other

Sessions are run by fully qualified and insured British Cycling coaches. We also have a dedicated Welfare Officer, who has attended a training course in Safeguarding Children. All volunteers, trained or otherwise, who have prolonged direct contact with children are CRB checked.

What to expect (Parents)
You will be welcomed and asked to complete a consent form. This asks for information about your child’s cycling interest, and why they are attending. This is used to give the coaches an idea of how to plan their sessions, for the young participants enjoyment. We then add your child’s name to our coaching register, so that we can log their attendance each week.

Safeguarding children
Abergavenny RC is committed to operating in a safe, enjoyable environment which is inclusive and welcome to all.
