Plans for Abergavenny Velo Park are taking shape

Plans for a major new cycling facility in Abergavenny are taking shape!

Monmouthshire County Council has published detailed plans and surveys about the cycling hub (or “velo park” – its name has not been fixed yet) that is to be built in Llanfoist, near the recycling site and McDonald’s/Costa/Premier Inn, just off the A456 Heads of the Valley Road.

The proposal is for a mix of cycling facilities focused around a 1km dedicated traffic-free circuit.

The site will be used for leisure, coaching, training and competitive cycling – including road, cyclocross and beginner-level mountain biking. It will also be available for other wheeled sports (e.g. wheelchair and Nordic skiing) and running. Street lighting will cover part of the circuit to allow its use during the evening.

If you follow the link to the plans, the document titled “Design and Access Statement 2020” is a good place to begin learning more.

If you wish to comment about this proposed development please write to abergavennyvelopark@gmail.com or write to the project consultants Owen Davies Consulting, 7A Nevill Street, Abergavenny NP7 5AA by 18th December 2020.
