Saturday Go Ride coaching sessions – important information
The youth sessions are coming back to the Red Gra!
In the current climate we have had to make changes to the way the sessions will run to mitigate risks to the riders, coaches and volunteers as well as to comply with the Welsh Cycling guidelines for running safe sessions.
This will be most obvious in the size and the duration of the sessions. To comply with regulations and to help us maintain social distancing during the sessions we will be starting with small groups of no more than 6 riders per coached group with a maximum of 4 groups.
The sessions will also be shorter 1 hour instead of 90 minutes, as this meets the government guidelines for minimising time spent training in a group.
One of the other key changes which we have now made mandatory is the registering of participants on the Eventbrite app. This allows us as a club to easily maintain attendance records for Track & Trace guidelines as required by Public Health Wales and to cap the session numbers at a level the coaches are able to support.
It also means you can book your riders on to the session and know they will not get turned away on the day. It is on a strictly first come, first served basis.
The Eventbrite app will also ask you to confirm that your rider and by extension your household is not currently experiencing any symptoms of Covid 19, including elevated temperature, a new and persistent cough or a change to sense of smell or taste. Please if this changes before the session but after you have registered, DO NOT ATTEND the session. If possible delete your ticket on the app so someone else might be able to take your space.
As the session sizes are limited we will be looking to provide coaching to the youngest riders within the Red Gra and would encourage any riders who are in the Under 12 category or above to go on the MTB rides with one of our ride leaders when these are scheduled. This is a no drop ride that will leave from the Red Gra.
As the safety of the riders and all the club members is paramount, the coaches have all generously given their time to complete the Sports Wales Covid Awareness training modules and are well versed in best practice for running a safe session.
Please assist the coaches by making sure to bring your rider to the red gra with safe road worthy bike with two working brakes and bar ends in place. Your rider will also need a well fitted helmet, please adjust it for them before the session so the strap fits snuggly below the chin and gloves to protect their hands. Coaches will not be able to make adjustments or provide support without donning PPE and this will interrupt the session, so your support is vital.
On arrival for the session you will be checked in at the gate to ensure you are registered and still feel well enough to participate. Both riders and parents will be reminded about the need for social distancing during the session and we will have some hand sanitising dispensers available for use before and during the session. The kids will be sorted on arrival into groups of 6 and will stay in the group for the entire session including warm up and warm down.
If parents are happy to wait in the car, that would be the safest option but we have allowed some space in the numbers for parents and welfare officers to be present on the site, as long as they socially distance.
As parking will not be permitted within the Red Gra, except for coaches, we suggest you park in the bus bay area between the leisure centre/school and the Red Gra.
Don’t forget to complete the rider consent form, if you haven’t already.

Hi,
My son has been interested in joining your club since the start of the year. He is 10 years of age and a confident bike rider. He has been able to ride independently since he was 3.
We live in Torfaen so are currently in local lockdown. Once these restrictions are lifted, would be able to come for a taster session? If yes, do we book through Eventbrite like stated above?
Kind Regards
Hi there, yes we would be delighted to see your son at our sessions, once the restrictions are lifted. You will need to book through Eventbrite and complete a rider consent form. Keep an eye out for when it goes live (usually Tuesday 8pm) as we have restricted numbers at the moment and places are going fast. Chris
