Abergavenny Road Club Juniors selected to race national road series

The club will again be represented at national level by our Junior road team on 24th March. Three of our juniors have been selected to race in Devon at what promises to be a fast and hard fought battle amongst the best 16-18 year olds in the UK.
They will race for around 2 1/2 hours at average speeds of 25mph+ at this, the first 2019 event in the National Junior road series.
Races later in the season include Tour of the Mendips, nr Bristol (April) as well as the three local flagship events – Cadence Junior race nr Talgarth in May, then the Monmouthshire Junior Grand Prix in June, and the Junior Tour of Wales in August. We hope fellow Abergavenny members will come and support the team at these events.
The riders selected for the Devon race are Luke Prothero, Tom Harrington and Will Truelove.
Luke has recently joined the club and has been putting in some serious winter training miles – around 260 miles per week.
Tom has done a lot of track racing/training recently with great success within the track league.  Both he and Luke have already ridden two national B races this year against seniors.
Will is a first year junior so has been earning points at criteriums in Bath, Stourport and Pembrey, as well as recently winning the Fenland Clarion road race.
Our other two junior team members (Adam and Kieran) will not be able to join us in Devon, but we look forward to getting all 5 of them out racing in red for Abergavenny very soon.
If you will see them out training locally, maybe doing some chain-gangs or local TTs, please give them some friendly encouragement.
Pics in order are Tom, Luke, Will.
