Wanted – 2nd Cat Juniors who want to ride the National Junior Road Race Series 2019
Abergavenny Road Club is a well established cycling club based in South Wales. It has produced Olympic medalists and World Champions on the track and road riders who have won the National Championship and gone on to ride the Giro D’Italia and Tour of Flanders. Last year Abergavenny RC rider Joe Beckinsale was 5th in the National Junior Road Race Championships and won the Welsh Junior Road Race Championships. The club also has a particular reputation for off road racing in mountain bike and cyclo cross at a national and international level.
We are looking to recruit additional junior riders who would like to join a team who will be targeting the British Cycling National Junior Road Race Series and National B races in the UK. If there is an interest and inclination to do so, we may also consider junior races in Belgium or France. We want to create a strong and positive team with riders who want to give their all, but also enjoy their cycling, without the cost or pressure to perform that may come from larger commercial teams.
You will need to be a first or second year junior rider next year who will be entitled to a 2nd category licence. While being physically located close to Abergavenny would be helpful, it is by no means essential and we are interested in riders from across the UK. We would also look for a commitment to race regularly, subject to exams and study.
To apply, send your cycling CV to justinharringtonathome@gmail.com.
Abergavenny RC Club Chair Owen Davies said: “We have a number of talented young riders in our club and we see the junior road team as setting an example and providing a pathway for younger riders. We are an ambitious Club and very keen for the Abergavenny RC Juniors to be a success and to challenge the best in the country.”
